hi David, wondering iof Cornwall is too big an area to be a contrasting place? We felt that was commented on by examiners. I've been trying to say to my students to refer to Newquay, but really it would be easier to say 'Cornwall' as you have. thanks for any thoughts

I agree Cornwall is too big. But, I am aware a major textbook uses it as an example. I reflected that. And, that is why I provided an alternative answer with Anglesey which is a much better scale, in my view.

thanks for getting back to me, I guess the biggest issue is if students use Cornwall in their A level as a contrasting place will they be penalised? Is it safer to almost 'lie' a little and talk about Cornwall issues but refer to Newquay? We've spent a lot of time on Cornwall for Rural regeneration so it made a good contrast to our own town of Brighton.

No, they won't get penalised. It's a widespread norm that if a textbook contains something, that is used by many students, then it has to be correct, even if not in the spirit of the spec. It's not the student's fault. As for using Newquay instead, that fine, as long as the stats fit. I'd stick with Cornwall.

thanks much appreciated. I've been living overseas for many years, and only been back for 3, so am wary of how things work here and not offering the wrong advice. This section of the course is certainly the most tricky bit to be sure on.
